The Commerce & Industry Minister has approved 26 cases of foreign technology collaboration/franchise agreements and 4 cases for grant of Industrial Licence.

The Project Approval Board and Licensing Committee in the meeting held on 18.12.2003 under the Chairmanship of Shri Lakshmi Chand, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, had recommended these cases for approval.

Hotel & Tourism industry with 11 proposals accounts for the largest share of the approved foreign collaborations followed by Transport Industry with 6 proposals and Oil refinery/Petroleum products with 4 proposals. The approved proposals from the Hotel & Tourism Industry include 4 proposals of the group companies of the EIH Ltd for Franchise and Marketing Support agreement with M/s. Hilton International, USA. The approved proposals in the transport sector include the proposal of M/s. Hero Honda Motors for transfer of technology from M/s. Honda Motor, Japan for a new two wheeler model. The proposal of M/s. Toyota Kirlosker Auto Parts Pvt. Ltd. for technical assistance from M/s. Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan and M/s. Aisin Takaoka Co., Japan for the manufacture of Axles and Propeller Shafts for the proposed new model multi purpose vehicle to be manufactured by M/s. Toyota Kirlosker Motor Pvt. Ltd. has also been approved. Government has also approved three proposals of M/s. Kalyani Brakes Ltd. for transfer of technology for the manufacture of Load Sensing Proportioning Valve and Passenger Car Braking systems and parts from M/s. Bosch Automotive Systems Corporation, Japan and M/s. Robert Bosch GmbH, Germany.

The four proposals approved for grant of Industrial Licence are from textiles, explosives and pharmaceutical sectors.

Since April 2003, a total 136 foreign technology collaboration/franchise agreement proposals and 75 proposals on industrial licensing have been approved by the Government during the current calendar year.
