PRESS RELEASE

    The Industrial Promotion Office (IPO) of UNIDO in Italy with its offices in Bologna & Milan has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Secretariat for Industrial Assistance (SIA) in the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion and the Office of Department Commissioner (Small Scale Industries) on 06.12.1999.  This MOU seeks to promote Italian Investment and technology transfer into India by setting up an Investment Promotion Unit (IPU) within SIA in the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion.  The duration of the agreement is initially for two years.

     The broad objective of the IPU would be to promote investment and technology flows as well as exports on both sides, as also assist in implementation of projects with Italian collaboration in India in the SME sector and thereby promote environmentally sustainable industrial activities.  The strategies for achieving this objective would include :

  • creating employment opportunities,

  • attracting larger inflow of technology and investments,

  • promoting cleaner production technologies,

  • enhancing global competitiveness of the SMEs, and

  • improving, at the SME level, skills and managerial efficiency through training and capacity building.
